Tom Sheppard

Tom Sheppard is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at University College London.

Tom was born in Preston, Lancashire. After studying Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge from 1995-1999, Tom took the opportunity to spend a year working as a research scientist at GSK, before returning to Cambridge in 2000 to do a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry with Professor Steve Ley. He undertook postdoctoral research at University College London with Professor Willie Motherwell, before beginning his independent research career in 2007 with the award of an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship.

Tom lives in North London with his wife Ruth, and their son Matthew and daughter Rebecca. In their spare time they enjoy walking, especially in the Scottish Highlands or the Bavarian Alps.
